Quiet Part Loud is a twelve-part audio horror series created by Jordan Peele. It follows disgraced radio host Rick Egan as he reports on the disappearance of a group of Muslim teenagers after 9/11. What was initially thought to be an ordinary hate crime is revealed to be anything but when Rick is brought face to face with a much older American evil.
At the end of 2021, the team had a meet and greet with Monkeypaw Productions. They brought up a project they were doing with Gimlet that was a horror teleplay for Spotify. Beyond the basic premise, details were kept under wraps. But Jacob and Roahn were hooked.
They pulled together some demo material and sent Monkeypaw a pitch reel. Following a productive call with director Mimi O’Donnell, they got started working with her and Jonathan (the sound designer and sound producer).
“We never could have dreamed how great it would come together and I’m just amazed by the depth and textures that come through. It harkens back to the radio teleplays of the 1940s but with all the added technological advantages of today. There are so many shifting sound perspectives and different microphone treatments that keep your ear consistently engaged — jumping from a tape recorded conversation, to a voicemail, to an iPhone earpiece to an iPhone loudspeaker, a radio station, etc…. They have raised the bar for audio storytelling.” — Jacob
Roahn and Jacob worked with Th3rdstream team members Cyrus Paul Ghazizadeh and Devin Reilly, as well as some of their favorite collaborators. These included guitarist Mark Marshall, Leoren Davis and saxophonist Russell Kirk.
Quiet Part Loud marked Th3rdstream’s first time writing for the podcast format. We are all excited for future opportunities to continue.
